MARIA KAOUTZANI
I am a composer from Limassol, Cyprus, based in Norman OK. Color and texture are central elements in my work. Through texture and orchestration I enjoy exploring the ways in which a number of instruments, no matter how diverse they are coloristically, can function as a unified entity that evolves over time. Voice and text are significant in my work: many of my pieces are based on poetry or literature, while voice is often used in my music in various roles.
I have a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and hold a Master of Music Theory and Composition from New York University Steinhardt. I teach at Knox University in Illinois.
